In other news, Beyonce’s new song ‘If I Were A Boy’ has missed the Grammy deadline by 8 days. She’d have been up for Best Song and Record and would have faced stiff competition from Alicia‘s ‘Superwoman’. Reportedly, If I Were A Boy is now being touted as the best song of her career. *crickets*
Solange Knowles was spotted in New York City this week shooting her new music video for ‘T.O.N.Y’. Urban News Network TV was on the scene and managed to provide us with some exclusive pictures of Beyonce visiting her sister on the set:
Beyonce greeted a group of overly excited children as she passed along the way. Teyana Taylor and Ceelo were also on the set to the shoot their parts. I am really glad that T.O.N.Y is finally getting the single treatment. The song is just really amazing to me and it’s one of my favourite songs from her latest album ‘Solange & The Hadley St. Dreams’.

According to ABC, Beyonce has been given the go ahead and has been cast to play singer/actress Eartha Kitt in an upcoming biopic about the singer’s life:

Singer and actress Beyonce Knowles recently received the greenlight to play legendary Eartha Kitt in a biopic of the singer’s life. Her sex-kitten nighclub act with that signature throaty performance helped Kitt rise to fame. She is perhaps best known for her role as Catwoman in the 1960s ‘Batman’ series. During her career, Kitt endured a 10-year blacklisting owing to her sharp criticism of the Vietnam War. Today, the 79-year-old singer is battling colon cancer. She told the New York Post, “I never expect anything to happen to me. “I’m the healthiest person in the world”. SOURCE.
Hmmmm…..I thought Alicia Keys was already given the go ahead to play Eartha Kitt. I actually reported Alicia landing the role last year. If anything, I recall Eartha saying she was honoured at Alicia being the one chosen to re-enact her life story. Sorry. I got it mixed up. Alicia was offered the role to play Lena Horne, not Eartha Kitt. Lena was the one who gladly welcomed Alicia as the frontrunner to bag the role. Anyway, as for Eartha, it’ll be interesting to see if Beyonce pulls this off but must she play ALL of the female black legends? Dreamgirls was losely based around Diana Ross and The Supremes, she just got done completing her role as Etta James in Cadillac Records and now she’ll be playing Eartha Kitt. Pretty daunting. I admire Beyonce the ARTIST but I never seem at all that entranced to run to the cinema to watch her movies. I just don’t think she can act. And I know I’m going to get a lot of flack for this but she did ‘okay’ in Dreamgirls considering that she didn’t have much lines or airtime anyway and was outdone by Jennifer Hudson.

For the first time EVER in Beyonce‘s 7-year relationship with Jay-Z, she *FINALLY* talks about her marriage to Jay-Z, why she didn’t opt for the traditional wedding bands and why she’s been so secretive about their relationship. It’s kinda funny she’s finally opening up now that her music is out and she’s got a new album to promote. The timing is just suspect. Why blow your cover just because you have an album to promote? If you have an album to promote, why not keep the two seperate? Still, I’m not mad at her at all. The interview is really insightful and helps to understand her paranoia about pimping her relationship to the media. Well, I think that’s all the Beyonce we’re going to get for today. Beyonce on her wedding to rapper Jay-Z:
Beyoncé tells the magazine that the wedding was very small and intimate, because she’s not a “traditional” woman and having it be “her day” wasn’t something she needed. Being a star and walking the red carpet has diminished the need for that over the years. “It’s been my day so many days already,” she told the magazine.
She didn’t want an engagement ring because “people put too much emphasis on that. It’s just material, and it’s just silly to me,” she said.
Instead of just getting wedding rings, the couple also got matching tattoos of the Roman numeral four on their ring fingers, so if they take off the bands for work or to go swimming, a mark of some form is still there. (The number four is special to the couple because her birthday is September 4, his birthday is December 4, and their wedding anniversary is April 4.)
Beyonce on why she’s been so private about her personal life:
“I feel that, especially now, with the Internet and paparazzi and ca
mera phones, it’s so difficult to maintain mystery,” she told the magazine. “And that’s so important. Even in a relationship, I feel like not being that accessible is really important. If you think about Prince or Michael Jackson, or any superstars, you couldn’t see them when they got off their planes or when they got out of the pool and didn’t comb their hair. It’s great that people see we’re not perfect. But it’s almost impossible to have superstars now, because people will never get enough. And it’s not even about my music. It’s about all the things that people imagine about me in their minds. But I can’t satisfy everyone. I know that Jay and I probably do inspire people. And I appreciate people feeling proud. But this is the only way I’ve been able to stay sane, so why would I start talking now?
“[Not speaking] controls your brand,” she continued. “It controls what you want to put out there and kind of forces people to talk about what you want them to talk about.”
But then Beyoncé lets it slip that it was a joint decision with her husband to keep quiet. “We decide everything,” she told the magazine. “My word is my word. What Jay and I have is real. It’s not about interviews or getting the right photo op. It’s real.”

And finally, Beyonce unveils the name of her new album. She reveals to MTV that her album is called ‘I Am’. Sadly, out of the 70-plus songs she’s recorded for the album, only TEN songs will feature on ‘I Am’, which will drop on Nov 18th. That’s right. 10 songs. How cheap. I hope there’s a couple of bonuses up in there somewhere or the CD comes with a deluxe edition of the sort. Anyway, I have to stress, it’s feels really good to have Beyonce back on the scene. I really can’t stress that enough.

Beyonce‘s new comeback single ‘If I Were A Boy’ debuted not too long ago. The track is produced by Tony Gad (the same guy who also produced Fergie‘s ‘Big Girls Don’t Cry’) and is one of two double-sided singles Beyonce has up her sleeve. I have to say WOW! I’m loving Beyonce’s version. She sings the pop ballad with so much raw emotion and poise and just takes the song into a class of it’s own. And that’s despite it not being Beyonce’s trademark bouncy R&B stomper.
‘If I Were A Boy’ is the track that pop radio will eat up without a doubt. The song will certainly do what it intended to do – win Beyonce more fans to her already hardcore fanbase. I am already chilling out to my HQ version on my Zen. It shows Beyonce can definetely lace any type of genre and make it commendable.
I’m wondering if she’s thought up a title for the new project which has a tentative release date of Nov 18th. Anyway, welcome back to the music scene Beyonce. It’s about time things got more exciting. I can’t wait to hear ‘Single Ladies’. After all, something tells me it’s going to be another banger.

The official album cover for Beyonce‘s upcoming movie ‘Cadillac Records’ has now been unveiled. The soundtrack will be a two-disc deluxe version, alongside the official version. It will also drop on December 2nd, courtesy of Sony Columbia. Beyonce has recorded a good portion of tracks for the soundtrack and one of the cuts will include ‘At Last’, the Etta James classic that she’s been performing recently.
In other Beyonce news, it’s alleged that her singles ‘If I Were A Boy’ and ‘Single Ladies’ may very well premiere on Thursday (Oct 9th). Again, RUMOURS! And I can’t really say I’m that excited to hear If I Were A Boy since we all know for CERTAIN that it sounds EXACTLY like that BC Jean demo I posted a couple weeks ago (but you can listen to it again after the jump). I’m not excited because I don’t like the song (I really like it). The reason I’m not excited is because the surprise is ruined. All thanks to the lil distorted clip that’s been making its online rounds today.

It was reported that UK fans had mistaken the singer for Prince during her promotional trip recently. They do look alike but Prince isn’t a handsome man. Prince is a BEAUTIFUL man so Riri should take that as a semi-compliment. Though I would think folks would realise that the ‘Purple’ one is pint-sized in comparison to Rihanna’s tall and sleek physique.

Last night, Beyonce attended the Children’s Hospital Foundation Diamond Ball and Private Concert at the American Airlines Arena in Miami, Florida:
Beyonce was looking stunning in a long red gown. The singer was recognised for her charity work and was guest of honour at the glitzy Florida gala to raise money for the Miami Children’s Hospital Foundation. In recognition of all her hard work for others, Beyonce was being inducted into the centre’s Hall Of Fame. Beyonce was also entranced by the skills of seven-year-old pianist Ethan Bortnick, who was playing to thank the hospital for treating his younger brother’s heart defect.
Rihanna performed ‘Live Your Life’ with rapper T.I during his MYSPACE.COM Album Release party for ‘Paper Trail’ this weekend. The gig took place at the Key Club in Hollywood, CA:
Riri looked fly in a golden leather jacket and some cool shades. Just before the gig, Rihanna was spotted with boyfriend Chris Brown (not pictured) as she departed Le Montrose Hotel in LA. The couple have been spending most of the weekend rehearsing for their upcoming tour. They are doing a tour in Australia and New Zealand which begins in late October and ends in the first half of November. This week, new dates were published on Rihanna’s official site, Rihannanow.com.
